Things I built
Side projects and communities I started and ran. Nobody asked me to build these. They grew because people used them.
Monopatia
Cyprus has excellent hiking, but the trail information is spread across government PDFs, Wikiloc and word of mouth. Monopatia puts every official trail in one place. Each trail has distance, elevation profile, GPS route, difficulty and a GPX download. A "near me" mode sorts trails by real drive time from where you are.
Hikers can sign in with Strava. The site then recognises trails they've already walked by matching their activity tracks against the trail routes, and a public leaderboard ranks hikers by verified completions.
It runs on the web and as iOS and Android apps, in English, Greek and Russian. About 3,000 people use it each month.
BikeInnPay
BikeInnPay was a Telegram group that helped athletes in Russia order sports equipment from abroad: bikes, parts and gear that local shops didn't stock or couldn't import. It grew into enough of a channel that a competitor bought it. years, members, orders handled
Triathlon Sale
Triathlon gear is expensive and wears out slowly, so there's a big second-hand market. In 2016 that market was scattered across forums and personal chats. I started a single place for it, set the rules for listings and trust, and moderated it for nine years. It grew to over 15,000 triathletes. Seven in ten of them came back every month, which is unusual for a marketplace community.
Selling bikes during COVID
In 2020 bike shops closed and new bikes sold out. Over three to five months, we used the community's reach to sell more than 100 new road and triathlon bikes, mostly Cervélo and Merida. In the orders I tracked, the average bike cost about €2,900. The most expensive, a Cervélo P5 with Dura-Ace Di2, cost about €9,800. Those tracked orders alone came to about €140,000 in sales.
In 2025 I sold the Facebook group and the @TriathlonSale Telegram channel together.
